Society of International Music Artists was formed with the specific intent to feature, promote and establish a live platform upon which musicians worldwide can be invited to perform fine Art Music. Our Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors with a passion of the fine and performing arts, and will endeavor to raise funds through sponsorship’s and donations requests.
Our objectives are:
- To create a professionally organized concert calendar showcasing talented music artist for local audiences while enriching our community.
- To establish an artistic and educational environment by inviting young student artists to actively participate in our scheduled recitals.
- Award scholarships
Our Society shall be wholly staffed by volunteers with a passion of the fine and performing arts, who shall endeavor to raise funds through sponsorship’s and donations requests.
HISTORY AND HIGHLIGHTS
The “Society of International Music Artists” is a Michigan non-profit organization founded in December of 2002 to enrich communities by sharing our passion for classical music and the performing arts.
Our mission is to promote art and culture through education and concerts. Our volunteer board of directors establishes policy and oversees society activities and the mission.
Through the years the Society of International Music Artists has attained a solid reputation for artistic excellence and notable achievements in Detroit Metropolitan Area with performances of “Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Gershwin and many more”
In the last 14 years, the Society of International Music Artists has been committed to organizing several classical concerts, master classes, and music appreciation classes with local and international artists.
Our Artistic Advisor, Maestro Stephen Vaglica, an Italian conservatory graduate and internationally acclaimed concert pianist has been with the Society of International Music Artists since its foundation. With his everlasting love for music education and his international experience, he has lead the Society of Music International Artists to the highest levels of professionalism.
It is our lifelong mission to continue to produce professional music performances. The Society of International Music Artists seeks to serve the Detroit Metropolitan Communities through a commitment to create inspirational programming through artistic excellence linking our citizens to a broader world of Classical Music and culture.
Honorable Oksana Xenos
Award winning Recording Artist, Stephen Vaglica is an American Pianist born in New York City, New York. The son of Italian parents, he was raised in Italy where he attended the prestigious Conservatory of Music in Palermo under the guidance of famed piano professor Antonio Trombone. He graduated with a Masters in Piano Performance with top honors summa cum laude and special mention. He continued his studies in Venice with noted pianist Vincenzo Pertile, who was a former student of International Pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Pertile was a strong proponent of Michelangeli’s teaching method providing great insight and finishing touches to a select few aspiring concert artists. Winner of numerous awards and special mentions, Vaglica returned to the United States to continue developing his career. He appeared throughout the years as Solo Recitalist and Soloist with several Symphony Orchestras touring the United States as well as important International appearances such as Japan, South Korea and Europe.
He studied conducting and composition with Sol Berkowitz and Leo Craft in addition to his extensive studies in Orchestration. He has been recognized by several Official institutions such as the Senate of the State of Michigan for “outstanding pianist of the year” as well as receiving plaques and Awards by European City Municipalities for Music Ambassador. Vaglica’s Concert Career is International playing throughout many different Nations and is highly sought after. He is regularly invited to play in some of the most prestigious venues. Vaglica’s playing has often been described by some of the world’s leading pianists as the finest of his generation. His critical acclaim has often been summarized as one of the most significant American Artist playing today.
Recent recordings have received the highest awards and merits such as his latest Chopin Album recipient of the Detroit Music Awards “ outstanding classical album of the year”. Vaglica has often been invited to preside and judge several International Piano Competitions as well as Lecturer of world renowned Masterclasses. Stephen Vaglica’s piano repertoire encompasses from Baroque to Contemporary though his stylistic preferences are deeply rooted in the Romantic Composers. He routinely plays some or the most noted piano concertos ranging from Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, Brahms and Rachmaninoff. A champion of American Composers, Vaglica shares his profound love for the Music of George Gershwin having recorded the composer’s famous Concerto in F. In addition to his busy concert schedule, Vaglica is currently expanding his discographic catalogue under different recording labels. CD albums soon to be released later this year shall include the works of Gershwin, Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann.
Alexadra Oikonomou - Soprano
Born in Weingarten (Germany) in 1975 but of Greek nationality, Alexandra Oikonomou started her musical training in Greece where she received her Degree in Piano with High Honours from the Aristotèlio Conservatory of Trikala under the direction of Iolanda Zahu and Daniele Petralia; she also received her Degree in Counterpoint and Fugue. After moving to Italy, she received her Master in Singing with "High Honors" from the “V. Bellini” Music University in Catania under the guidance of the Italian tenor Filippo Piccolo and she continued her studies with the mezzo soprano Giovanna Canetti in Milan attending also her Master Classes at the “Ticino Musica” International in Lugano (Switzerland). In Italy she attended also classes with the famous soprano Francesca Scaini getting the best Italian singing School tradition. She enjoys a worldwide activity as opera singer, chamber music singer and with orchestras.
